Connect a Static Source from an Excel File

Video Instruction (3:30)

Training Guide

  • In Sources, Select the green plus button.

Sources need to be established by data type.  Notice that it can be Numeric, Text, or Other.    The Import Type must also be the same for the data Source.   This example is only Text and Static data.

  • Select the Connection.  In this example, we only have the Excel.

  • Select the Data Type as Text and the Import Type as Static.

  • Specify the Sheet Name as "Static" and the Stacking as by Entity.

Notice that depending on the staking, the Data Schema Example changes.  The data you are importing should match the selected Data Schema.

  • Preview the Data

Ensure that the data is the data that should be brought in.  This is a good step when bringing in large sets of data.

  • Select the Entity Column.  In this example, it's Entity.  It should be a unique identifier for the data.

  • Select Mappings from the top of the screen.  The data must be mapped to entities and signals in PetroVisor.

  • Extract the data from the data Connection.

  • Since no data exists in this workspace, all the entities need to be Mapped to New as a Well.

  • Select Signal.  After mapping the entities, the Signals need to be mapped to the Workspace.

  • Extract the signals from the Connection.

  • Notice there are three signals in this example to map.

  • Use the Search function to see if the data has a similarly named area in the data.

In the example, there is no data named "Formation."  Since there is no similar Signal, create a new Signal.

  • Click "Map to New Signal."

A screen will pop-up.

  • Populate with the following information
    • Name:  formation
    • Short Name: formation
    • Unit Measurement: Dimensionless
    • Unit: Dimensionless
  • Click "Create Signal."

Notice that the first signal in the list is now mapped to "formation."

The next Signal, "WELL NAME," is also a new Signal. Follow the same steps from above to create and map a new Signal.

  • Click "Map to New Signal."

A screen will pop-up.

  • Populate with the following information
    • Name:  well name
    • Short Name: name
    • Unit Measurement: Dimensionless
    • Unit: Dimensionless
  • Click "Create Signal."

The last signal maps to an already existing Signal.

  • In the search bar, type "profile."  Wellbore Profile is the correct Signal to map.

  • Click on "Wellbore Profile" to map to "WELL PROFILE."

The next step is to ensure that the data is correct.  Notice there are 507 mappings.  (169 Entities with 3 Signals for each Entity, 169 x 3 = 507.)  Notice that the SourceSignal is mapping to the corresponding Signal.

After a quick check, we are going to add the Source.

  • Click "Add Source."

  • Name the Source "Static Header."

  • Save.

Make the Source public by clicking on the user icon.

  • Click Save.
